Dha Hanu Jeep Safari : 4 Days
Follow the river Indus, visit the ancient monasteries of Spituk, Pheyang, Basgo, Likir, Alchi, Rizong and Lama yuru. Whilst savouring the dramatic desert mountains enroute Dha hanu is home to a special tribe called “dard” or Ariyan who have maintained a unique form of Budhism. Their cultural is fascinating different to the other Ladakhis. Accomodation can be camp or family guest houses.

TSOMO RIRI & TSOKER WHITE LAKES
(The two big different natural lakes)
This region has recently been open to travellers and has super trekking possibilities. The high Changthang plateau of east Ladakh is a vast untamed paraire, surrounded by snow capped mountains. The Rupsho valleys are the pasture lands for herds of Yak, Horse, Sheep & Goats belonging to the Changpas Nomads. Treks over high altitude passes for the adventurous, and to the massive white salt Tsoker Lake. Visit the Nomad’s headquaters and Tsomoriri Lake- famous for its turquoise blue. This wild habitat is home to rare Black necked Cranes and grazing herds of Kiang (wild Ass) and marmots. Beautiful landscapes, completely isolated and rugged.

PANGONG LAKE
(Asia’s largest lake in two different countries, China & Ladakh)
Asia’s largest lake,at 4130m, is 150 km from Leh. It’s famous colour changes with the sun,a magnificant blue at sun rise,transforms into a rich,deep blue when the sun sets .

NUBRA VALLEY
(The world’s highest motorable road of 5606 m)
The world’s highest road and camel safari’s.The region of Nubra is acessible all year round with the road over Khardong La of 5610mts open even in winter. The specticular view of Karakuram range & famous highest peak Saser kagri 7678mts and the Siachen glacier 70km long. Surprisingly Nubra valley lower altitude creates fertile villages with an impressive abundance of crops & fruits. The friendly Monks live in beautiful Gompas perched on the rocky mountain sides help makes this a timeless place. Accomodation can be camp or family guest houses.

CAMEL SAFARIS
Nubra valley is home to the two humped Bactrian camel, once the mode of transport in central Asia. Camel safaris can be organised along the “Sahara-esque” sand dunes following the Shayok River.
ZANSKAR VALLEY (The Land of peace)
Zangskar is virtually untouched by the modern world, this valley has been isolated
for centuries by a ring of high peaks. The lowest pass is the Pensi La (4418m). Although immoblized in the winter, except for a short period -see The Chadar Trek - this charming valley offers stunning treks,rafting and mountain climbing during summer and is now a favorite with tourists . Padum, the region’s”capital” has a few facilities ; accomadation is in comfortable, locally run guesthouses. The Zangskari people are independant & proud and by their geographical situation quite seperate from the rest of Ladakh, with their own royal family- the local King of Padum & Zangla. An good alternative to trekking is a jeep or motorbike tour ,but only during the summertime ! Visit different villages and stay with the local Zangskari people, experiencing their culture from the inside. Travelling past the beautiful glaciers of Nun Kun, the famous peak of 7142m., we will stay at the pituresque camp of Rangdum,over looked by the monestery with it’s splendid views of the Nun Kun peak.

SPITI VALLEY (The Tabo)
The middle country is a part of Western Himalayas, a barren and uncompromising land that is a world in its own country. Spiti is bounded by Ladakh in the north, by Kullu in south, in east by Tibet and in west by Kinnaur. This snowland can be divided into three main valleys, the spiti, Pin
& lingti valleys drained by Spiti, Pin & Lingti rivers. According to general cunningum there were many outlying districts in 10th century AD, which were formed into a great Kingdom of Ladakh, presided by decedent King of Ladakh Lhachhen Spalgigon. The Lahoul & Spiti were southern most part of the region. Meanwhile, it was an independent Kingdom ruled by Lha Lama Yeshesod and connquered by Singay Namgyal in the 17th century.

THE NOMADS OF KHARNAK/ RUPSHO
Shangri-La Experience are proud to have a special connection with the nomads of
Kharnak valley,Changthang. In particular the buddhist nuns who have a hard, isolated life,especially during winter, without suitable shelter. Kharnak’s lunar landscapes are incredible,but the valley receives very few visitors & tourists. We provide help and support funded by the profits from our agency,giving food, clothes and medical supplies - basically whatever is needed by the nuns and the nomad children.
